“I want to be resilient, and I want the world to be soft and gentle”
About this Work
The somatic and expressive arts healing practice is a therapeutic and supportive tool in addition to any other healing activities that you are undertaking such as psychotherapy, talk therapy, faith-based communion, mindfulness, or others. This practice aims to complement the body-mind-spirit connections through your own wisdom and creativity.
As your facilitator I work with you one-on-one, with your family, and community or organizational group during one time sessions or a series of sessions, depending on your goals and capacity. During our time together I look for building a trustful and respectful relationship, and a space for you to integrate challenging questions and experiences that you want to explore, at the same time as building on the resources and tools for facing everyday stressors and difficulties, and cultivating nourishing self-care, and community-care practices.
Who is this for?
This healing practice is for anyone who wants to connect and reconnect with their bodies, inner wisdom, imagination, and their creativity. And for those looking to build new ways of being beyond the dominant capitalist and white-supremacy structures.
My goal is to work with those who live in the “in-betweens”—in liminal spaces—people holding multiple cultural, racial and other identities, such as immigrants, and members of the 2SLGBTQ+ communities. In particular people belonging to the Global Majority* communities [people of Indigenous, African, Asian, or Latin American descent], and who have a desire to explore the gifts and burdens that these lived experiences can bring to individuals and communities.
I want to support those in our communities who are leaders and community caretakers. I offer my work to individuals and communities who move mountains of any sizes everyday.
Leaders to me are: those who are caretakers of visions to create change in our world; those pushing for justice everyday; people changing policies; individuals building full lives while living with chronic illness in a capitalist world; immigrants and their children carrying family and cultural expectations; and people who support and care for our future generations, such parents, teachers, mentors, ”aunties”, and more.
This is a practice for you if you are looking for a space to explore in a creative and playful way how to carry these responsibilities, get in deep connection with your gifts, and build your own self-care and healing path through your body and the arts.
*The term Global Majority was introduced by Rosemary Campbell-Stephens in 2003 as a way to challenge the normativity of a white “majority” or Eurocentric perspective.
Your Session
At the beginning of each session we check in about what are your goals and expectations
We start scanning our physical body, to understand where any discomforts or soothing sensations are. Our bodies carry in them many experiences that we may not be conscious about, it holds all our interactions, and places that we have experienced.
Then we explore any natural movement, no matter if they are big or small. We work with our breath, nervous system regulation, locating ourselves in the room, or any other activity that you need to feel settled and present in the space
From there it’s all up to what is needed at the moment, we start working with different modalities of art making using simple and everyday objects. We create drawings, stories, movements, spaces to relax in, anything that will allow for you to explore your goals.
We end our session by reflecting about your experience and building meaning about how to integrate it into your goals for your healing and life you are building.
