Opportunities and Transitions

This coming month of September in the Northern Hemisphere we are heading to the end of Summer, and a peak of harvesting season. Our Summers are abundant in offerings from the land, opportunities for connection, and reconnecting with others. The heat and sun filled our bodies and spirits and we mirrored them to tend to the exterior world, to organize for justice, weave moments of joy, and express our expansive energy. Now approaching the Autumn Equinox I find this opportunity to reflect on what has been cultivated, and carefully harvest its learnings and gifts, bringing in a sense of balancing between those internal parts that need attention and my presence in the outside world, and how to nourish the relationships that are holding us together to build caring and healing human and beyond-human communities.

One of the resources that this season has brought my way is the opportunity to continue stewarding the physical space for my practice. A corner of the world that is acting as nest, incubator, and refuge not only to me but to two other colleagues and camaradas in our visions for a liberatory world. It is an honor to share this office space with Sia Hanna, and Paloma Ávila. Please get to know a little bit about them below:

Paloma Ávila is a yoga instructor and currently finishing a somatic therapy course. She is passionate abouth the human beign and the power and medicine within. Paloma helps people through yoga and other somatic practices connected with their own body. Releasing emotional trauma, creating new and healthier patterns of thinking and doing is Paloma’s main purpose while working with people.
She is an immigrant from Mexico who has been living in Potland, OR for the past 13 years, and she loves this city and all the magic it offers. Paloma is looking forward to keep learning and connecting with this magic and its people.

sia hanna is the herbalist behind ahwa and herbals. In her practice, she supports people as they work to shift their physical, emotional, mental and connective well-being. Plants, both their medicines and teachings, walk with us both on the journey, as sia provides recommendations for medicinal plants and foods, as well as other lifeways and rituals to find more resilience and resistance in a world which requires both. The mission of sia's work, inside and outside of the office, are connection and interdependence to plants, land, each other, and the fertile space of deepening  those relationships through presence, commitment, and support. She works collaboratively, centering the personal goals and desires of the person she is working with, weaving together all the wisdoms in the room and centering the client's desires, self-knowledge and self-exploration. Additionally, sia facilitates classes, workshops, plant walks, makes high quality herbal medicine, and tends a small area of land.
